Asther Lau

Hello!

I am a Malaysian female photographer based in Kuala Lumpur/Selangor that loves any kind of photography listing from nature to skyscrapers, especially portraitures for newborn babies, toddlers, pregnant families, couples & families as well as weddings & events.

I am also an avid scuba diver which enables me to capture amazing underwater images from all around the world.

This blog follows both my professional life (as well as) some of my personal life, featuring MOMENTS from the maternity & newborn sessions, weddings & beautiful people I managed to capture with my lens, the places I travel and the friends and family members that mean so much to me.

This blog will also serve as my photography website, featuring my work & information of available services from yours truly. :)

It also contains random information source for my current and potential clients as I’ll (from time to time) provide some useful links of wedding tips & what-nots for your ”surfing” pleasures. I hope this blog will also be a source of inspiration and education for other photographers.

This site is a little more informal and I just want to give everyone a sense of who I am, and what I am all about. Do feel absolutely free to leave comments or post questions. You can also contact me for other booking enquiries. Thank you for visiting and REMEMBER to stay updated with Asther Lau Photography’s Blog by subscribing to our RSS feed!

Sweet Baby Bump: Rao + Putri

Couple, Portraiture, Pre-Natal | 5 August 2010

A dear old friend, Stephen Wong, referred Mommy P to me for a maternity portrait session recently. During the time, my mum was away for a short holiday, thus I had no babysitter to help with my little girl. I was hesitant to accept this assignment but after Mommy P told me that she has only 2 days left before she’s to be admitted to the hospital for a scheduled delivery! Hearing this, I felt that by whatever means, I must help document her precious pregnant moments before she delivers her baby girl.

I decided to do a mini session for her at my little home. Hubby R has just arrived Malaysia from their overseas home (they’re currently living overseas because of work assignments & they came back to Malaysia to welcome their little girl into this world :) ) just hours before and we’re really happy to be able to include him in the portrait session.

I really enjoyed this mini session, especially when I get to witness & share their joy & love together. :D

P/S: Decided to show this series in Black & White. Hope you like them. ;)

Another Contest!: World Breastfeeding Week 2010

Announcement, Event | 1 August 2010

Today marks the beginning of World Breastfeeding Week 2010 and I’m taking this opportunity to announce an upcoming event which a few of my mommy-friends & myself are organizing in support of breastfeeding effort in our community.

Here are some details of the event. :)

Gift Of Love Charity Move

Gift of Love Charity Bazaar 2010

One fine day, three SAHM (stay-at-home mothers) had a “calling” and decided to organize an interesting charity event together.

They share the same believes & support towards breastfeeding (they found each other in The Breastfeeding Advocates Network ) and decided it’ll be wonderful to do the event in conjunction with World Breastfeeding Week 2010. They went through lots of challenges searching for a venue but alas(!), Tropicana City Mall generously offered their hospitality to host this event in September 2010!

Along with a few other talented mommies, supporting sponsors, friends & families, they hope that this first-time event will be an annual agenda if this one succeeds in 2010. ;)

EVENT’S OBJECTIVES:

EVENT OVERVIEW:

    Date & Time:
    24 – 26th September 2010, (Friday – Sunday)
    10am to 9pm (Sunday ends at 6pm)
    Venue:
Tropicana City Mall – Level 2, Circle Area near Monsoon ID & StoryBook
    Target Audience:

A Bazaar

Visitors will find all sorts of baby products, family care products & services, etc. among the 30+ vendors in here.
A Photo Booth
A CANON sponsored photo booth will be opened throughout the event for visitors to have their fun portraits taken by professional photographers who volunteered their invaluable time & energy during this event. 4R & A4 prints will be offered at an affordable price for the portraits taken. All proceeds from this booth will go to charity. Additional “donation” amount is encouraged. ;)
A Fun-Filled Stage
There will be kids fashion show, health talks, various interesting competitions such as diaper wearing contest, etc. in the itinerary throughout the event. Visitors are encouraged to sign-up & join in the fun!

I Miss Your Big Bear Hug, Daddy Dearest.

Personal, Project 365 (Year 2010) | 29 July 2010

It’s been now three years since my father left us to be with the Lord after a series of complications due to a stroke in January 2007. I’m currently back home in Kuching. Since today is the 3rd anniversary of his passing, I decided to take the day off from work & focus on reminiscing the old times with my daddy dearest by going through my family’s old photo albums. Initially I was planning to scan some of the photos with our old scanner at home but couldn’t seem to find the cable to connect to my laptop. But I did manage to dig out an USB cable for my camera (I forgot to pack one in my camera bag this trip) and decided to take pics of the photos instead for this blog post.

Here are some photos of my daddy… down the memory lane…

Daddy was quite a sportsman during his younger days. (I sure did NOT inherit that part of his genes tho. :P )

He won quite a few trophies actually... too many that I decided its too much to share it all on this blog. ;)

I’m proud to know that my daddy’s a very fun-loving person. His presence always brightened up a party and he loves to make other people happy. :D Many told me that I inherited quite a few of his “social-able” traits. ;)

He had this amazing skill of roasting a piglet to perfection everytime we hosted a party. I so so so miss these moments.

As I was leafing through the many albums, I realized there were not many family portraits taken with my daddy as he was always the one behind the camera. These are the only few (good-clear ones) that I’ve managed to find for this post. There were much lesser family portraits when we were much older. :(

His passion was in the construction field. And I’m glad when he left, he was already doing what he loves. :)
